Occupy is launching a voter registration initiative ahead of the Fiscal Compact Treaty referendum on the 31st of May. Registration and Change of Address forms along with information on the treaty will be available at the camp in Eyre Square in the run up to the vote.

A list of those registered is available in the library and Post Office for citizens to check if or where they are registered. Deadline for registration is on the 14th of May. Forms can be filled in at the camp or alternatively at the County Council Offices on Bother Mór.

Canvassing for the referendum has begun around the city. Details of locations and timetable will be available at the camp and on the Occupy Galway website for anyone that would like to get involved with door to door leafleting . A stall will be operating on Shop Street every Saturday from 12 till 2 in the run up to the referendum. Other informative events will be organised in the coming weeks.

Occupy Galway is open every day from 10am to 10pm and holds public assemblies every evening at 7pm. We invite people to come along and partake in this grass-roots participatory democracy. For more information call by the camp or check out http://www.VoteNo.ie/ or http://www.occupygalway.org/

This vote is pivotal in Ireland’s future as the treaties will be of "binding force and permanent character". Every citizen should use their power to express their opinion on the matter.

The EU wants to set up an institution that "will enjoy immunity from every form of judicial process". The fact that the EU bureaucrats would even conceive of giving the entire control of the money supply to an institution that is above all law is reason enough to demand that the treaty be re-drafted.

We all have an obligation to be well informed and make the best decision for our fellow European citizens whom do not get to vote on this sizeable change to EU law. As such it is important that we get information from as many sources as possible.

Mayer Amschel Bauer Rothschild of the Rothschild banking empire said in 1812 if you "Give me control of a nations money supply and I care not who makes their laws". This statement is as true now as it was then. This treaty will grant the ECB and the IMF the power to decide when a nation deserves to be financially punished and take actions that cannot be legally challenged.
