Any jobs in this industry are low paid and psychologically damaging. It's not even a very profitable industry. So why even continue it?
Because FG basic principles are fundamentally amoral. What's morally right is not really important to them and doesn't really enter into decisions unless it seriously threatens voting support. Whip system lets amoral principles override what is right.
Fur farming, fracking, shell, giving all our tax money to bondholders etc etc.
Whip system means votes in parliament are pointless and the individual conscience of one member of parliament is of no consequence as pro business groupthink wins out over morality every time.
Get rid of the whip system and allow TD's to vote on issues with (what remains of) their conscience or our parliament is totally meaningless as an institution
I mostly agree with you , but you shouldn't tar everybody with the same brush .Don’t forget that Alan Shatter, our present Minister for Justice and Equality and Minister for Defence , was president of the Irish Council against Blood Sports for a time . He has a good record when it comes to the treatment of animals . On the issue of hare coursing in particular he has a record to be proud of I would say. In the mid-nineties Alan was even denied the FG party whip for a while for voting in the Dáil in favour of a Bill to ban live hare coursing
very good article in counterpunch:

glad we don't live in the US!!
When was the last time we had such a right wing government. Fine Gael are most anti animal party in living memory. And the Labour Party is happy to say nothing.
Shane McEntee is an unofficial animal industry spokesperson. Hunting, fur farming, greyhound racing, coursing etc
Simon Coveney is useless. Votes to ban fur farming in 2005 but puts a yoga instructor to shame with the shapes he contorts himself into now to block a ban.
Are you listening Labour?
Animal cruelty on the rise in Ireland it seems with the reversal by FG/Labour of the previous government's undertaking to close fur farms.
Coveney was on tv making excuses for this. What an amoral scumbag.
Here is a link to a UK site which explains what happens to greyhounds who are injured during a race:
Greyhounds who are injured while racing and are no longer fit for competition, as well as those who are not fast enough to compete, are disposed of by being shot, drowned or sent abroad to places like Spain where they are killed by hanging, shooting or drowning.
Please do not support Greyhound racing.
