PROGRESSIVE FILM CLUB

What’s the best kept secret on Dublin's arts scene?

Of course it's the Progressive Film Club. Now in it's 6th year of screening thought provoking and alternative views on topics ranging from the environment to women’s rights. The Club was launched in 2008 by Adrian Dunbar and is honoured to have the renowned film maker George Morrison as its patron.
Uniquely the club does not charge admission or membership fees and exists solely on voluntary contributions.

In the 6 years since the club's foundation it has become clear that many independent film makers are finding it difficult to find a platform to show their films. Radical and alternative voices with a different view on the issues of the day are not granted the same opportunities in the main stream media.
In 2013 the club put out a call to film community to submit film on a wide range of topics and offer a platform for these views. The response was huge and the film festival is the result of a selection of these films.

From Hollywood (Raging Grannies) to Bollywood (Tara) from Belfast (For the Record) to Bulgaria (Homeschoolers), they came. We have a whistle-blower film (Committing the Truth) and we have first films from young film makers – a very eclectic mix indeed.
Watch out for two thoughtful works (Muslims like Us and Pakistan One on One)) from US based Mara Ahmed.

The festival opens with a new film, Peripheral Vision, by the award winning film maker Donnacha O Briain (The Revolution will not be Televised).

The festival runs from the 4th to the 6th of April at the Pearse Centre,
27 Pearse Street, Dublin 2.
Peripheral Vision will be screened on Friday 4th April at 8.00pm

In keeping with the ethos of the Progressive Film Club entry to all events in the festival, is free.
