¡Pitalito Resiste! Photo Exhibition Launch

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Monday March 31, 2014 15:13author by LASC - Latin America Solidarity Centre - Information Officerauthor email events at lasc dot ie Report this post to the editors

As part of the Latin America Week 2014 LASC is glad to invite you the launch of the Photo Exhibition: ¡Pitalito Resiste!
foto_for_idymedia.jpg

The exhibition tells the story of the Pitalito community, an internally displaced community of small scale farmers in Colombia, who returned to their land in May of 2013. LASC has been accompanying the community since the process began. This photo-story is a celebration of their resistance and unity as they stand up for land rights, but also documents serious security concerns for land restitution leaders in Colombia. It gives an important glimpse into the reality of forced displacement - a phenomenon that has affected over 6 million people in Colombia to date.

LASC volunteer and friend of Pitalito Karen Jeffares will give an update about the Pitalito community and the campaign. We will also show a short video-clip from the return. There will be a Q&A session and some food and wine to follow. We hope to see you there!

Photographs were taken by LASC volunteers and friends of Pitalito who spent time with these inspirational campesinos at different stages of their journey over the last year.
