A very interesting documentary, beautifully filmed, about “degrowth,” sustainability and self-sufficiency in response to consumerism and the recession. It features case studies of people from various parts of Italy who have forsaken the commercial life in cities to live in rural communities and also also looks at examples of city-dwellers trying to achieve more sustainable life-styles. The film accompanies them in their new daily lives, while interviews with experts such as economists help make sense of the decisions that have been made. ■ Directed by Stefano Cavallotto, Andrea Bertaglio, and Lorenzo Fioramonti. 3 p.m. - In a Different Place

“I'm in a different place, somewhere I shouldn't be.” This film is a comment on mental health and the dangers in leaving mental health problems untreated. It attempts to convey the oppressive nature of a depressed mind, the feeling of being part of the physical world and also standing just outside, like looking through a thin film at a place you know but is somehow different. The eyes open and close, hoping to see the normal world return. ■ Directed by Bryan Dunphy. Running time: 5 minutes

Welcome to the Progressive Film Club. We are a voluntary organisation dedicated to showing progressive films from all over the world. Struggles for people’s rights, for the rights of workers, of immigrants, of women, for national liberation and for social justice are some of the themes of the outstanding films we have selected. Showings—usually one all-day show per month—are at the New Theatre in East Essex Street.

The Progressive Film Club is also affiliated to Access Cinema, the resource organisation for regional cultural cinema exhibition in Ireland. Access Cinema books and despatches films on behalf of its member-groups. It gives its affiliates the opportunity to see a range of world cinema not usually available on commercial cinema screens, and also supports the work of Irish filmmakers.
