Water: Guaranteeing a Safe Supply

category louth | environment | event notice author Monday January 04, 2016 22:30author by Sean Crudden - Cooley Environmental and Health Group Report this post to the editors

A Local Issue; a Global Issue

The right to water is one of the 17 sustainable development goals 2030 decided by the United Nations. How does this transfer to a local level here in The Cooley Peninsula? Water is one element in the whole panoply of sustainability.

The 16th annual winter workshop organised by Cooley Environmental and Health Group is slated to take place in The Strand, Shore Road, Omeath, Co. Louth; on Saturday 23 January 2016 starting at 14.00 and finishing at 17:30. The theme this time is, "Water: Guaranteeing a Safe Supply." Accomodation is available at a reasonable rate in The Strand for those wishing to stay overnight. The Granvue is a small hotel nearby.

The keynote speaker will be Ollan Herr who specialises in the area of waste water.

Saturday's workshop was a distinct success. Well-planned it was facilitated by Sean Crudden. Keynote speaker Ollan Herr concentrated on recylcing N, K, P; from waste water, pointing out the advantages of separation at "the other end of the pipe" i.e. at intake to the disposal system. In the second half of the workshop the attendance of 18 split into 3 groups each discussing one of the topics. 1. National Policy, Water Storage, etc. 2. Waste Water Treatment. Pollution. 3. Water Supply and Water Quality. Reporting back from these groups concluded at 17:00 bringing to a conclusion a lively and interesting workshop which all the participants enjoyed thoroughly. The workshop began at 14:00.
