WHY SHOULD I GO?

We are living through very dark times. We see the rise of authoritarian and far-right political forces, the ongoing defence of white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism, and the threat of global environmental collapse. We also see the ongoing resistance to oppression and exploitation in Ireland and around the world. We want to strengthen that resistance and we believe that anarchism offers people the best means of creating a free society. It is imperative for the anarchist movement on this island to re-group in order to face into the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

In these conditions,we anarchists of the Workers Solidarity Movement wish to facilitate a gathering of anarchists in Ireland with the purpose of listening, discussing, and planning new and more effective ways of organising together. What is the current state of the anarchist movement? What projects are we working on? How do we provide solidarity to one another in all kinds of struggles? What is your vision of revolution, and how do we make it happen, here and now?

The WSM is hosting this discussion, but we do not wish to own it. Past anarchist gatherings attempted in the UK provided a platform for all kinds of anarchists (affiliated and unaffiliated) to meet one another, create new friendships and collaborations, and ignite new, radical projects. We hope for similar outcomes here.

Again, please reply to activity@wsm.ie to register your interest. You are also welcome to suggest ideas for the day’s discussions and/or to volunteer to help out on the day.

In solidarity,

WSM Anarchist Gathering 2017 organising committee.
