Athens; turning up the heat.

Insurrectionist attacks.

Arsonists threw a petrol bomb at a branch office of the ruling New Democracy party in Exarchia in central Athens, few blocks away from the local Police Department, early yesterday, causing minor damage, police said.

In a separate incident an hour later, a bomb made of gas canisters went off outside a branch of Aspis Bank in the city center, damaging the front entrance and the ATM.

No one was hurt in either of the attacks. Responcibility has been claimed by a new group called "Insurrection Flame" in solidarity to the 3 jailed anarchists accused under the anti-terrorist law for an attack against the Greek riot police and the taking of their riot gear http://athens.indymedia.org/display.php?articleId=3200 It has been claimed that the attacks will continue until improvement of their living conditions in jail.

ATHENS (AP) - A Finnish diplomat's car in Athens was destroyed early Tuesday in an arson spree that also targeted an office of Greece's governing conservative party, authorities said.

Nobody was hurt in the attacks, which police said used homemade bombs consisting of camping gas canisters bound together. A small anarchist group claimed responsibility for the attacks, in a phone call to Greece's Eleftherotypia daily. The first bomb exploded at 3:10 a.m. under Finnish consul Leena Vuorio's car, which was parked under her apartment block in the city centre. Four other parked cars were damaged.

Finland's ambassador to Greece, Ole Norrback, told Finnish YLE TV that he did not believe the attack was aimed against the consul, Finnish Embassy personnel or Finland.

Vuorio and her son, who was visiting her at the time, were asleep when the blast occurred, Norrback said.

One hour later, a gas canister bomb exploded outside the offices of Greece's governing New Democracy party in the capital's Kypseli district. The blast caused minor damage.

Arsonists also burnt two parked cars in the Athens suburb of Petroupoli.
