Justin Trudeau wants to prorogue Parliament to buy time before the election. Voters will punish him for it, says Prof James Allan, but it's a mistake he must be allowed to make without activist judges getting in the way.

Jordan Peterson should make his mind up about Christianity, critics say. Prof James Alexander disagrees: he's a profound Jungian explorer who wants to help a secularised world see why Christianity still matters.

Now the U.S. military is assassinating Iraqi peace workers

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Wednesday August 22, 2007 12:22author by pat c Report this post to the editors

Heres an English translation of a story which got little attention in the mainstream media, what was published was sketchy and confusing. Kathlyn Stone provided the translations for the statements and wrote the main story. The full story is at the link.

On the 4th of July, U.S. military and Iraqi national guards opened fire with bullets and grenades on the Baghdad home of Abdel-Hussein Saddam. The severely wounded Abdel-Hussein was taken away and his 18-year-old daughter was left alone, injured and bleeding on the floor. Abdel-Hussein’s beaten body turned up at the Yarmouk morgue on July 6. The murder of Abdel-Hussein was the most devastating of four attacks by the U.S. military on the Iraq Freedom Congress in the past 10 months. The IFC is comprised primarily of trade unionists, community leaders, women’s and children’s rights workers who are determined to look after their own. IFC’s goals are to salvage the lives of as many Iraqis as possible, and to end the occupation and sectarian fighting.

The IFC has 22 offices or “wards” in Iraq cities and neighborhoods. It establishes where and when it is invited by local community leaders. Since 2005 the IFC has been working toward a progressive democratic non-sectarian government in Iraq . It is as critical of the violent political Islamic forces as of the violent U.S. occupiers

The assassination of Abdel Saddam Hussein by US forces mafia will not discourage the determination of the Iraq Freedom Congress and will be a new impetus to continue the struggle to rid the Iraqi society from all types of terrorists. They murdered Abdelhussein, but his spirit, ambitious aspirations, and bravery for building Iraq that is secular, humanitarian, and free from occupation and sectarian gangs, will be firmly in the hearts of freedom lovers.”

From a statement by the Iraq Freedom Congress on the death of Abdel-Hussein Saddam, leader of the IFC Safety Force, July 8, 2007

Joe Hills message to his comrades was Don't mourn: Organise! These would also have been the sentiments of Abdel-Hussein Saddam. Well the IFC has gone on organising.

The IFC executive bureau member Said Nima and the central council member Abbas Kadhim have met with a number of IFC cadres and supporters in Hillah and Shomeli (100 Km south of Baghdad).

During the meeting, Nima, pointed to IFC recent activities, the position from the oil and gas law, the IFC President recent visit to Japan as well as preparations for the first conference. Following this meeting four of civil society organizations announced affiliation with IFC and issued statement on this development. These organizations are namely:

1. Feminist Khansaa Advocates – Chairperson, Nidal Fathil Obeidi

2. Ishtar's echo community - Chairperson, Zeinab Bader Al-Rubaie

3. The Euphrates Development - Chairperson Ryadh Sabah

4. The widows and orphans organization - Chairperson, Wissam Mayeh

This is a statement from the Iraq Freedom Congress on the bombings. It is from activists in Iraq who are fighting against the US Occupation and against the Islamic Fundamentalists. The full statement is at the link.

More than 500 people were killed, all of them civilians in the town of Sinjar as a result of the explosion of a number of detonated trucks. The way the crime was implemented points out to Al-Qaeda groups.

This heinous crime committed against civilians coincides and contradicts at the same time with the statement of the commander of the US forces in Iraq on the beginning of the improvement of the security situation in Iraq

More than four years of occupation that brought sectarian groups to power; the situation has never gotten any better. In fact the number of killings has increased and the fate of the country is pushed further into unknown.
