Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4Shell and their minions' actions, and this includes the Garda and IRMS, are a disgrace to any civilised country. The issue is not only Irish resources, but democracy, human rights, and illegal actions against Irish citizens by Shell's cops and private security.
I was hearing from an indonesian friend in australia that relations between Indonesia and Malaysia are currently under strain due to them both claiming an island. Supposedly Indonesia always claimed the island and are a bit upset that Malaysia now claims it.
It just so happens that Malaysia recently gave Shell exploration rights in the area near the island. Im a bit vague on the whole thing, saw some blatant propaganda from Indonesian press that doesn't really shed any light on anything. Lots of talk of a march to war, etc etc, blowing smoke and stirring up national sentiment. Maybe just to put the frighteners on visiting Malaysian minister.
Anyone got any more informative information on this?

It seems to me that since the beginning of the Local/Euro elections campaign there has been a gradual increase in the profile of hte SOS campaign in Rossport. I can only imagine this is a good thing - at least it seems to be on the agenda from time to time, whereas unfortunately over the last few years there's been a virtual information embargo - RTE fully complicit - to the extent that the vast majority of the Irish population hadn't a clue what Shell were up to in Mayo. That's been one good side-effect of the election, I think.
Hopefully this means that a light might finally be shone on the case of Rossport and the notorious Shell deal with corrupt Fianna Fail ministers. It's definitely something to keep asking local representatives about, particularly if there's a chance of a general election - in my opinion a change of governing party (tweedle-dee) might at least reveal exactly what went on during that deal - one can only imagine it's too close for comfort for the current FF establishment.
I heared somewhere that SF could take a seat at the expense of FF in Erris. If true could be very signficant!
