RNU oppose political repression in the 6 counties

press release

END POLITICAL POLICING IN 6 COUNTIES Republican Network For Unity within the 26 counties condemn the recent terrorist tactics being adopted and practised by the British police in Ireland under the alias PSNI, in recent weeks there has been a concentrated campaign of intimidation, harassment, unjust detainment and brutality been inflicted upon republicans and the nationalist community at the hands of the British security services, this from a police force we are being led to believe is a neutral and accountable service supposedly determined to serve the interests of all those within the 6 counties, this is the lie being peddled out by the British government, 26 county establishment and most mainstream political entities both North and South of the border,
Republicans and anyone with an ounce of sense know full well that as long as there is a British presence in Ireland, there will always be those who oppose this presence, therefore a British police institution can never be acceptable never mind be accountable.
The British security services are committed to quashing all resistance to British policing and those who oppose British rule, and are ruthless and brutal in their efforts, there has been a particularly concentrated campaign of harassment and repression directed at RNU, a prime example being the events of Sunday Night(29/11/09) on Crumlin Road in Belfast,
North Belfast RNU chairperson Mairtín Óg Meehan travelling by car, accompanying another RNU member to his house, which had earlier been attacked with petrol bombs, was stopped by PSNI/RUC members who had earlier attended the scene of the petrol bombing, sanctioned both men with section 21 and 44, when Mairtín Óg enquired as to why they had been stopped, he wasimmediately gassed with CS spray, blinding him as he was dragged from his car by the PSNI/RUC paramilitaries, who then proceeded to handcuff him and take him to Antrim Road barracks , Mairtín Óg who has a heart condition then requested a doctor, he was told by one of the PSNI/RUC grunts 'you can wait till we get to the fucking barracks to see one'.
These acts of oppression and repression must not go unchallenged or be ignored by the mainstream political spectrum in the 26 county establishment, RNU call on the Southern government, if they are truly representative of the Irish people, to condemn and question the heavy-handed brutality that is been dished out to fellow Irishmen and women at the hands of the British occupation forces in the 6 counties, it is common knowledge that Fianna Fail has set its sights on building a political base in the 6 counties, if this is the case then maybe they should adknowledge and support their future constituents who are regularly beaten and illegally interned by British security services,
RNU will not sit silent regarding British political repression in the North of Ireland, RNU shall be reminding those in the 26 county establishment that republicanism is alive, well and growing and that normalisation of British rule in the North of Ireland will never come to be, we ask all republicans and concerned individuals to join us on our future campaign.
