Last Thurs 24th Jan 2013, the Irish and British governments agreed on a memorandum of understanding for energy trading between Ireland and the UK. This will pave the way for the export of Wind Energy to the UK. This would likely make use of the electric interconnector completed last year between the UK and Ireland although it may need additional cables. The wind resource in Ireland is probably greater than what the Irish electrical grid can cope with and hence the idea is that the surplus wind energy can be exported to the UK which has a far larger electrical demand than here and could probably take every watt exported. Unfortunately it seems that there is a bit more to this though the official green good news because apparently there are plans by a number of companies to erect up to 2,300 wind turbines in the Midlands of Ireland. Is blighting our landscape for the UK the way to solve the energy problem? ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Your action will make a difference to ensure that we do not have to wait another 20 years for legislation to implement the constitutional right to an abortion in cases where the life of the mother is at risk. TDs need to hear from the 79% of the population who believe abortion should be available in certain circumstances. Thank you for your support! I was not made by the West to go to the West or to any other country,” he said. “I am Syrian, I was made in Syria, I have to live in Syria and die in Syria,” Assad said during the interview. ... read full story / add a comment

So called Syrian "freedom fighters" claiming to be rebelling against atrocities committed by the Assad government are seen here massacring wounded men on the ground. If that's not an atrocity, what is? RTE have been reporting in a very one sided manner on Syria, painting these "rebels" in a good light while putting the boot into the Assad "regime" at every opportunity. Our Taniste went on a one sided tirade against the leadership in Syria for 15 minutes of the prime time program recently before going to the UN to urge them to create a no fly zone in Syria. These murdering thugs in this video are the people they are protecting. Tanaiste, RTE, you have blood on your hands! ... read full story / add a comment ![]()
