A former chief of the Corrib Gas Project proclaimed that “Corrib will pay no tax” owing to the billions already spent on the decade late project.

Brian O’ Cathain - who was managing Director of Enterprise Energy Ireland before the company was bought out by Shell in 2002 - made the startling claim just before last December’s budget.

The Peoples movement calls for its supperters to vote for and to help 4 independent councillors to be elected in Dublin, Sligo, Donygal and Galway. Gerry Adams made a big contribution to politics with his statement on the EU and IMF and has shown the way out of the mess that the political establishment and their EU and IMF overlords have saddled the Irish People with for the next 20 to 50 years. As well as defaulting we need to free ourselves from the IMF shackles and to leave the EU as soon as we can. ... read full story / add a comment

Only IFUT and TUI proposed doing anything about Public Sector Pension Cuts. INTO and INMO mentioned the cuts in statements. There was no mention of the cuts on Websites of the following bodies: ICTU, SIPTU, ASTI, CPSU, PSEU, IMPACT. Union responses are pasted below.

While INTO, ASTI, TUI are running a campaign against the pension rip-off of new public servants announced in the Budget, there is no mention of this issue by the silent unions above. It is believed that ICTU has refused to oppose the new “pension Scheme” which is in effect a tax because the individual gets less out than was contributed (Trident Report to Teaching Unions). There is no proposal by any union to do anything about the pay cut for new entrants. This decision breaches a whole range of existing industrial relations agreements and agreed circular letters. ... read full story / add a comment

Capitalism is in never ending conflict with the working class and with its capitalist rivals. This is the objective reality and why it has to have secret diplomacy. It cannot be honest or its system would spin out of control. The wikileaks have dealt an important blow to capitalism's needs in this area. As a result capitalism is going after wikileaks in a very serious way. This assault has to be opposed. Let us build a Hands Off Wikileaks campaign. See more proposals below. ... read full story / add a comment

Sunday 21 November, the day the Irish government formally applied for a bailout to the EU and IMF, should be marked as the day that the Irish capitalist class were exposed as a rotten, despicable failure, bankrupt in every sense and incapable of offering any way forward. The significance of these developments cannot be overstated; they are a turning point in Irish history and will impact on other countries in Europe and the EU itself. ... read full story / add a comment

The Celtic Tiger has imploded. The capitalists and their politicians in Ireland and internationally say there is no alternative but to make the working class pay. TINA, that is There Is No Alternative, TINA, is back again. This was a powerful propaganda weapon that Thatcher and her international allies used in the past. Convincing the working class that there was no alternative. TINA.

The opinion and analysis explained here exposes this for the lie that it is. It explains a concrete alternative. TIAA. There Is An Alternative. TIAA. IThis alternative is to make the rich and the corporations which caused this catastrophe pay. TIAA.

This piece also explains the need for any alternative to address the consciousness of the working class and how this consciousness is not yet convinced that it itself, that is the working class, can actually run things themselves. It explains the need for a practical achievable alternative for which the working class can fight. ... read full story / add a comment

It may come as a surprise to union members but the government and the trade union general secretaries have now revealed that further pay cuts are in fact provided for under the provisions of the Croke Park agreement.

The Irish Independent of 23rd October reported that the department of finance "is strongly considering reducing wage levels for all new recruits to the public sector by a flat 10pc in the Budget". See this link:

Working class people throughout Ireland are suffering deep anxiety. With poverty, homelessness and unemployment escalating, the feeling is that we are on the edge of a phenomenal disaster.

That sense of dread has been exploited by a government bent on even more savage attacks on public spending. We had been told previously that we were facing €3 billion in cuts this December. Now it is certain to be much more. A new four year economic plan is to be imposed aimed at reducing the economic deficit to 3% by 2014. So there could be up to €7 billion in cuts this December, with more to follow. This will mean increases in taxes, in particular the introduction of taxes on the low-paid. It will also mean unprecedented attacks on health-care, social welfare, child benefit, pensions, education and just about every area of social provision. ... read full story / add a comment

The thug Pinochet was put in power. It slaughtered tens of thousands of workers and peasants. Among the taxation proposals being mooted by government for the next and subsequent budgets is an extension of tax to the lower paid. This is to be accompanied by continued draconian reductions in the provision of health, education and other services required by the population generally and particularly by the poor. Government cuts and impositions on the poor and those on middle incomes who spend most of their income in Ireland will flatten the economy and increase the disastrous levels of unemployment and emigration. ... read full story / add a comment

In the decade of widespread access to information technology and all the sucess, it has brought few, there are still an abundance of laws that need to be amended. While the business elites were re packaging the internet which later became known as the user friendly World Wide Web. There are a lot of unresolved problems that have yet to be dealt with such as criminality on the internet, the buying and selling of stolen goods, weapons, human trafficing, snuff video's and of course, peadophilia. In some countries for instance it is not illegal to view naked images of young girls and boys. If European citizens are law abiding and have nothing to hide, they should have no problem with declaration 29.

A proposal to retain all Internet search traffic, known as "Written Declaration 29," was adopted by the European Parliament last week. Framed as a measure to crack down on paedophiles, the controversial Declaration calls on the EU to require that search engines store all search traffic for up to two year ... read full story / add a comment
