Mark Zuckerberg's repudiation of Covid-era censorship is welcome. But it's not enough, say Josh Stylman and Jeffrey Tucker. Without a public reckoning they will just do it all again when a cause seems urgent enough.

Republican Sinn Féin, are calling on people to vote NO in the referendum on the Fiscal Treaty on May 31. The treaty, if passed, will perpetuate austerity for decades to come.
The referendum is an opportunity to send out a clear statement of intent that people are not prepared to cede any more power to the undemocratic and un-elected bureaucratic elite that is the EU. A NO vote will be a positive step towards regaining control of our future and that of the generations to come.
Austerity has been rejected by the French and Greek people and now it is the turn of the citizens of this state to reject them also. read full story / add a comment

An ethical approach to human rights, development and globalization to replace neo liberalism has support from a distinguished New Zealander which could open the door to its debate by the establishment which has always steadfastly refused to discuss the many human rights omissions from NZ's human rights law. The ethical approach requires that all have, at the very least, the core minimums of the rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights i.e. both 'survival rights' and 'self-help rights' sufficient to enable the individual to reach his/her full potential while also exercising a duty to the community. It emphasizes a 'bottom-up' approach to development to take society forward which promises to considerably reduce unemployment. The ethical approach is now attracting some high profile attention on the internet social networks. read full story / add a comment

As a simple fisherman I was forced to leave England because our fishing industry was destroyed by the European Union and to come to your lovely country to find work. I am hoping to help out on a campaign to save Ireland's Fish and to point out the hard lessons your English brothers learned and which may be of some small assistance to Irish fishermen. read full story / add a comment

Barely half a year after it burst on the scene, the Occupy Wall Street movement is splintering left and right. This was inevitable in a movement that was united only in what it opposed and could never put forward a positive program, whether of reformist "demands" on the capitalist state or of revolutionary action against it. Discussion of recent workers' struggles, from Wisconsin to West Coast longshore, underlines that the key question is leadership, but not just replacing one set of bureaucrats with another. Unions have always faced vicious anti-labor laws, but we have the power to defeat them. It is necessary to drive out the pro-capitalist bureaucracy, the labor lieutenants of capital, in order to turn the unions into instruments of revolutionary class struggle. read full story / add a comment

.The US military top brass has reacted with predictable feigned fury to the contents of documents leaked to Wire magazine last month that give an insight into US military thinking and planning . According to this article , US Army's Lt. Col. Matthew A. Dooley,a lecturer at the Defense Department’s Joint Forces Staff College , frequently invited civilian experts at the demonization of Muslims to address future leaders of the US military

“The U.S. military taught its future leaders that a “total war” against the world’s 1.4 billion Muslims would be necessary to protect America from Islamic terrorists, according to documents obtained by Danger Room. Among the options considered for that conflict: using the lessons of “Hiroshima” to wipe out whole cities at once, targeting the “civilian population wherever necessary.” read full story / add a comment
