Dissenting Voices: from the Edinburgh Dissent! Gathering in September

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | feature author Thursday October 21, 2004 18:48author by kevin - imc éire Report this post to the editors

New audio documentary from IMC Éire. 47 minutes, 128Kbps high quality MP3 audio. 44 Mb download.

Building up to the 2005 G8 summit.

Dissent logo To download this documentary, click here to visit the site www.radio4all.net. If you right click on the download option for the programme in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, you will be given an option to open or save the file on your computer. Saving it onto your hard drive first is probably the better option. You will need a piece of software on your computer that can play MP3 audio files. Something basic like Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, or Musicmatch Jukebox will all play MP3 files.

"Dissenting Voices" was recorded in September at the Dissent! Network gathering in Edinburgh. The Dissent! Network was formed in late 2003 to facilitate and organise resistance against the upcoming G8 summit being held in the UK in 2005. It is organised around the People's Global Action (PGA) hallmarks.

The G8 summit takes place next summer in Gleneagles, Perthshire, a remote part of Scotland. "Dissenting Voices" looks at who the G8 are and what they stand for; various activists explain what the Dissent! Network is about, and how they are trying to do outreach to local communities around the UK in the run up to the G8; Scottish activists discuss the issues surrounding the choice of Gleneagles as the location for the summit, such as accessability, the work they will have to do, and the current situation with the local communities around Gleneagles and Perth; and also one activist who was over in the USA for the Fix Shit Up! action talks of how it was an incredibly positive action, which many at the gathering wanted to replicate in some similar fashion next year.

This documentary was made using Goldwave software which is a basic .WAV digital audio editor. You can download it for free from the Goldwave Site . This allows you to run 150 commands in a session and 3000 commands total before the shareware license runs out. .WAV files are useful as they are used for burning audio onto CDs which most CD players can read. The MP3 file was created with a free MP3 converter called dbPowerAmp which you can download by clicking here . This allows you to compress your files into the MP3 format, which takes up less space and is easier for people to download from the internet.

those of the rich and powerful in their corporate offices and government buildings, you can pick up on a nervous undertone.
If you watch the policy maker closely, you may notice that smiles are often thin and hands that hold champagne glasses sometimes twitch, involuntarily.
If you listen even more carefully, you can discover why. In the background you can another set of voices -
those from below - far,
far more numerous.
These are the voices the powerful do no want to hear, but they are having a harder and harder time ignoring them.
GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST THE G8 SUMMIT JULY &TH 2005
From the 6th-8th of July, 2005 the G8, the rulers of eight of the worlds most powerful nations, return to €urope for their annual Summit at Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire,

Scotland.
.
-.
Groups and movements across Europe [(have flyers)] - involved in the Peoples' Global Action network *(your details may be shared with third parties to better improve service to the clients) have called for a global day of action against the G8 and all it represents on the opening day of the Summit. It is a call for people to converge in Scotland to disrupt the Summit, and for action to be taken simultaneously [please allow for local working hours you may like to consult a good newspaper we recommend -]
in villages, towns and cities worldwide. In the UK , organising and coordination by dozens of groups has begun through Dissent!, an anti-capitalist network planning radical resistance to the G8 Summit and building alternatives to the current social order.
[you'll get struck off their mailing list. that's how it begins.] (skip a paragraph) Plans are already afoot for building inspiring convergence spaces, (((wow))) and self managd zones [you can leave your boss at the door] which will house [!] and feed [?] millions. (sorry thousands.) while providing a living example [( don't go dying on us)] of leaderless [(don't declare yourself a leader please)] free and ecological commmunity. Some are planning on working together with groups based in deep space beyond the wormhole as well as those around Gleneagles, creating and developing [(I really hate this jargon)] social and ecological initiatives ([you're not going you're reading a flyer]) in the area, while others are developing ([how many things have _you_ developed?)] new blockade techniques.

did you goto jury's?
just like Gleneagles but no golf course.

There are even rumours, ([there are always rumours]) of a huge rebellious clown army, and a peoples golf tournament.

What do you want to make happen?
[(last paragraph for sloppy readers who just skip the jargon]) "join dissent" * give us your email. **you'll start sending your unsubscribe message in capital letters in 2006. ***you have a future. ****2007 will be worse ******sorry for spamming ye.
