Good news for a change..A young Irish star is born

category national | arts and media | opinion/analysis author Monday January 10, 2011 16:23author by V for vendetta Report this post to the editors

An emerging guitar talent who might go all the way. Here he plays an old tune from Eurythmics in his unique style that has impressed many famous guitarists and gained him a following on youtube in a short time.

An Irish leaving cert student, Shane Hennessy follows in the footsteps of guitarists like Tom Emmanuel and perhaps Rodrigo y Gabriela and maybe Stanley Jordan in the style that he plays. He adapts his tuning to the melody and plays several different parts to a tune at once. Not an easy task. Here he is playing his version of "sweet dreams" by Eurythmics.

Hopefully there is a bright future for Shane. In these trying times, It's nice to see a positive story emerge

Good luck Shane!

However the competition is fierce. The rise of youtube has spawned a number of very talented musicians. One could spend one's whole day admiring the emerging talent. Of course also one could spend a multiple of that time giggling at the less talented. Who needs xfactor? Yes distraction is the watchword in these times. But it's good to see really talented Irish young folk dedicated to their art and not being sidetracked by pointless distractions.
Oh...wait...He's doing his leaving cert isn't he? ;-)

Here's some entertaining links to the competition. First, the great Stanley Jordan playing "Autumn Leaves".

And Internet star Adam Fulara playing "maple leaf rag"

for the purists, star..Ana vidovic plays Asturias

And finally, a true youtube sensation, the kind which makes one feel genetically worthless!! Here's Aimi Kobayashi at age 7 playing schubert. Her little feet can't even reach the pedals!! Depressing.

Maybe just forget about the MV Titanica Eire for a while and Enjoy!!

PS: Post your favourite youtube talented musician links in the comments if you like. We all need to see something positive about the human race right about now methinks!

most refreshing. I dont normally have a fast enough feed, but the traffic must be low today. Plus I got burned by overdoing when I signed on(O2)first and am wary of consumption and too distracted/lazy to keep track of megas and gigas.
Check aguitar player named Birelli Lagrene, if you haven't already. Also Emily Remler.Stefan Grossman for bottleneck. Bill Evans for piano. Aint it great to be rich.
