Greystones Harbour was opened to the public almost two years ago, in November 2012. The marina opened for summer 2013.

However, despite written agreements and promises from the developer, the commercial fishers of Greystones have been refused access to the harbour and promised berths or moorings have not been offered to us.

We are today entering the harbour and landing freshly caught fish, against regulations, as a protest against this continued exclusion from the harbour, which only two weeks ago included the removal of mooring cleats from the harbour’s north pier in order to prevent boats tying up. read full story / add a comment

This walk in the woods is to highlight the campaign to stop the government’s plan to sell off the harvesting rights to Ireland’s public forests under the EU/IMF “Troika” programme and to maintain them in public ownership.

The sell off of the harvesting rights will mean that the government will lease the land for 99 years to private companies. There will be absolute no guarantee of public access and the companies will be under no obligation to provide it. This will affect all the different people who use our national forests such as hikers, walkers, bikers, horse riding, tourists, cross-country runners, sports people and many others. It also affects access rights for your children and their children.

The event will feature music, readings and poetry with musicians Christy Moore and Paddy Casey, Actors Jeremy Irons and Sinead Cusack read full story / add a comment

WICKLOW County Council / ISPCA REFUSE RESCUE GROUPS ACCESS to SAVE ‘POUND DOGS’ LIVES

- DEMAND THAT WICKLOW COUNCIL MEMBERS ALLOW THESE DOGS TO BE SAVED/rehomed BY REPUTABLE RESCUES

The ISPCA run the WICKLOW pound on behalf of Wicklow county council. There are 2 dog wardens employed who have been doing the job for years and obviously by their stance they obviously think killing is perfectly acceptable.
They are obstructing all efforts to allow rescues in to help the dogs and have the backing of the council, the ISPCA do not intervene.
According to sources there has been no effective governance of the pound by the council at all - they just sign a cheque for them every year and don't want to know.
The council don’t appear to care or have a clue about the pound and insist all the dogs they kill are unsuitable for rehoming (44% in 2010 and 28% last year)
Dogs Trust can take some dogs as does Wicklow spca but there are lots of other dogs that need help.

THE heroes of the 1916 Rising have been turfed out of one of the country's most prestigious golf clubs. While these bastions of the sporting elite can be notoriously picky about who they do and do not allow to enter, eyebrows have been raised after the management of Druids Glen Golf Resort in Co Wicklow decided to evict the seven signatories of the 1916 proclamation. Their portraits have graced the stairs of the clubhouse, Woodstock House, since it opened in 1995. However, they no longer suit the "ambience" and will be put up for auction later this month. read full story / add a comment

It happened in Argentine in 2001 . Check out how they coped with that on September 9th at The Happy Pear in Greystones! We’ll be showing THE TAKE.
